1/31/09

So I got out of bed at a decent hour this morning. I was just about ready to call the terminal and get myself on the board. Then I looked outside. It looked cold. Like really, really cold. Screw that. I went back to bed.

I got up again a couple of hours later and just didn't feel like calling at that point. I figured that I could wait until this afternoon and then get on the board. By that time most of today's freight would be assigned and I would work my way up the board for something tomorrow. When I finally did call this afternoon, I was put on the board at #9. The dispatcher told me that anything that came up would most likely be for tomorrow, so I didn't need to drive over to the yard today. Good deal. It looked really cold outside.

I'm up to #4 now, so I guess I'll spend one more night at home and then head over to the yard. It probably would have been good to get a dispatch today and make enough to pay for my insurance on this week's paycheck, but you know... Besides, I have an ace up my sleeve. I don't know man. I guess I probably should have gone to work today. I didn't really do anything worthwhile. Whatever. Maybe tomorrow.

Another late, late night. Friday isn't looking too promising. Maybe I'll feel more motivated in the morning.

In keeping with an old habit, I stayed up way too late and eliminated any notion that I might leave town on Thursday. We'll have to see about Friday.

Shopping and errands done - check.
Laundry done - check.
Temptation (to go out with a chick who kinda sorta hates me) avoided - check.
Fridge stocked with Smithwick's - check.
Fridge emptied of Smithwick's - check.

Good day... pretty damn good day... but for that damn false advertising. I should learn to let it go. I really should. I think that there's only one way to make you understand the severity though. Now I present to you the obligatory politician-style document dump. If this evidence doesn't convince you, then nothing will.

Well, I guess that's the typical conclusion to a few days spent with one's family. I think everyone had a good time, but I'm pretty sure we're all glad to be home now.

We did a little shopping in Niagara on the Lake before proceeding westward this afternoon. I grabbed a few bottles of wine from some of the local wineries, since my home state prohibits me from ordering wine to be shipped directly to me. Might as well kick a few more Loonies into the Canadian economy instead. My brother seems to be a big fan of something called 'icewine.' I had never heard of it before this weekend, but I'm pretty sure I'll stick with a good dry red and leave the sweet shit to the children.

We got a pretty good shot of snow toward the end of the drive home. That's always nice when you just want to get off the road and onto the couch.

Let us assume, for the sake of conversation, that you entered a casino with $200 in cash. Let us then assume that you left the aforementioned casino several hours later with $150 in cash. For the sake of reference, you spent roughly $80 on alcoholic beverages while you were at the casino. Did you win or did you lose? Hmm...
There have been Visits to this here blog dohickie.
